Aberdeenshire museums overcome staff shortages

Two Aberdeenshire museums are expected to reopen soon after closing temporarily because of the local council's recruitment difficulties.

Carnegie Inverurie Museum's part-time curatorial assistant resigned in April, and the museum was forced to close in December, when the relief assistant left.

But Claire Petty, the acting senior museums officer at the council, said the post has been filled, and the museum will reopen this month.

The council also struggled to recruit a curatorial assistant for Banff Museum, leading to its closure for much of last summer. But Petty said the recruitment process has begun, and the museum is set to open on schedule in June.

The council blamed a low local unemployment rate for its recruitment problems.
