Museum labels have come a long way in a short time – awareness of different learning styles, changing attitudes towards language and a desire to be more inclusive have led to a radical overhaul in how we approach written interpretation.
This practical online conference includes case studies, creative exercises and discussions to:
- present some of the latest thinking and approaches to developing labels, text panels and other written communications in gallery spaces
- support your professional practice and give you ideas for your next project
- discover how museums are collaborating with community partners to bring new voices and perspectives into exhibitions
- get a better understanding of how technology has changed the way audiences consume information
- deepen engagement through your written interpretation
- find out how the words you pen can help visitors make sense of challenging subject matter, from climate change to colonial histories.
This event is for you if:
- you work in an interpretation or exhibition design team
- you are a curator looking to refresh your practice
- you work directly with audiences who may find written communication challenging or intimidating.
Please note that this event will be recorded and available exclusively to delegates after the event, so if you can’t attend on the day, you can catch up in your own time.
We aim to present a diverse range of speakers from across the UK and internationally at our one-day conferences. If you are interested in speaking at one of our events, or have a project you’d like to see explored, please tell us more by emailing the events team.
A full programme will be available in due course.
