Lily-Rose Hill
What apprenticeship are you doing?

I am currently doing a Level 3 Business Administration qualification at the London Transport Museum within the Creative Careers team.

What attracted you to this apprenticeship?

I was attracted to this apprenticeship as I get to work with young people from different backgrounds and with different needs, helping lower the challenging boundaries people may face getting into the creative sector.

I get to have a creative input, supporting programmes that really make a difference to society and to the cultural and heritage sector.

How has your experience been?

My experience so far has been amazing. I have had the opportunity to support other teams and departments, which has allowed me to gain valuable skills and knowledge. In a short amount of time, I have done things I never would have thought I’d be able to do, pushing myself out of my comfort zone and then feeling really proud.

I run an apprentice network called CAN, short for the Cultural Apprentice Network, and I take pride in planning monthly meet-ups. This was an opportunity I never thought I’d get but I truly love to do it. I love being able to bring together apprentices in London who work within the heritage and culture sector so we can share experiences and knowledge to support our early career development.

Being an apprentice can feel scary, being surrounded by professionals who have loads of experience, and sometimes it can feel hard to relate to people. This network gives us a relatable space for all of us to connect.

My team is also really supportive with my development, and I can see how much they consistently encourage me to take on new challenges that help me grow both professionally and personally. Having people around me who genuinely want to see me succeed has made a huge difference, and it’s given me the confidence to keep aiming higher. Overall, my apprenticeship has been a rewarding experience that’s shaping me into someone who’s ready for the next step in my career.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of doing an apprenticeship?

Doing an apprenticeship is a brilliant way to open doors, explore new opportunities and learn in a real working environment. You’ll be surrounded by skilled and knowledgeable people who genuinely want to see you succeed. Gaining hands‑on experience from day one gives you a head start in your career and helps you progress much faster than you might expect.
