Tate expands its visual arts network
Sixteen organisations join Plus Tate
The Plus Tate contemporary visual arts network has nearly doubled in size with 16 more UK organisations becoming members.
They join the original 18 partners, taking the total number in the network to 38, which includes the four Tate galleries.
Plus Tate was launched in 2010 with the aim of sharing collections and expertise in order to build a network that would use Tate’s resources to strengthen the contemporary visual arts ecology in the UK.
The decision to extend the Plus Tate network was announced in September 2014. Tate said it prioritised the applications that had a strong artistic vision, a focus on contemporary art, outstanding public programming and a commitment to local community engagement through art.
The network will now have greater geographic spread across the UK with three new venues being added in Northern Ireland, the Fruitmarket Gallery joining in Scotland and Artes Mundi in Wales. Three London venues have also been added.
The new partners are:
Artes Mundi in Cardiff; Camden Arts Centre in London; the Centre for Contemporary Art in Derry-Londonderry; the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art in Manchester; Chisenhale Gallery in London; the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh; the Golden Thread Gallery in Belfast; Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston; John Hansard Gallery in Southampton; Liverpool Biennial; the MAC Belfast; the MK Gallery in Milton Keynes; Modern Art Oxford; the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art in Sunderland; the South London Gallery; and Spike Island in Bristol.
They join the original eighteen partners which are:
Arnolfini in Bristol; Baltic in Newcastle; the Cornerhouse/HOME in Manchester; Firstsite in Colchester; Glynn Vivian in Swansea; Grizedale Arts in the Lake District; the Hepworth Wakefield; Ikon in Birmingham; Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge; Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art; MOSTYN in Llandudno; Newlyn Art Gallery and the Exchange in in Penzance; Nottingham Contemporary; the Pier Arts Centre in Orkney; the Towner in Eastbourne; Turner Contemporary in Margate; the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester; Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridge; and the four Tate galleries.
The enlarged Plus Tate group will meet together for the first time in July 2015 to set the agenda for the next phase of development to 2020.
