The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (Cilip) has appointed Nick Poole as its chief executive.
Poole is currently the chief executive of the Collections Trust, the independent charity that works with museums, libraries and archives to support collections management.
He will join Cilip on 22 June, taking over from the organisation’s former chief executive Annie Mauger, who stepped down in January.
Poole has been with the Collections Trust for 10 years and has overseen the development of UK and international standards for information management, as well as advising on digital programmes.
He served as a trustee of Cilip for four years, and has also been a council member of the Museums Association and chairman of the UK branch of the International Council of Museums.
Poole said he was honoured to be taking the helm at Cilip. “I want to ensure that the skills and expertise of our members is championed as widely as possible, nationally and locally,” he said.
“These are challenging times for our community, and Cilip needs to be able to offer leadership, support and encouragement to professionals working to promote information literacy across industry, media, education and government.”
Cilip's interim head, Jill Colbert, will continue in the role until June.
A spokesman from the Collections Trust said the organisation had not yet begun to recruit for Poole’s replacement, but would discuss the recruitment schedule at its next board meeting.
