Peter Keller appointed as Icom director general

Keller has been director of the Dommuseum Salzburg since 2002
Peter Keller has been appointed as director general of the International Council of Museums (Icom).

Keller, who has been in the new post, a full time role, since 1 February, was previously the ICOM treasurer.

Keller was the director of the Dommuseum Salzburg (Salzburg Cathedral Museum) in Austria from 2002. He held this position alongside his role as Icom treasurer, but an Icom spokeswoman said that he is no longer working for the Dommuseum.

In 2014, he initiated a merger between the Dommuseum and three other museums to form the DomQuartier Salzburg. Before joining the Dommuseum, Keller worked at the Staatliche Museen in Berlin for three years.

In a statement, Icom said that Keller would focus on enhancing the organisation of the head office, and on improving internal and external communication.

In addition to his role of treasurer at Icom, Keller has also served as chair and secretary of the organisation’s International Committee for Historic House Museums and on the board of the Icom Austrian National Committee.

He succeeds Anne-Catherine Robert-Hauglustaine, who was appointed director general in 2014.

Icom is a global organisation of museums and museum professionals. It is a non-governmental organisation that works closely with Unesco.
