I heard about opportunities to work with the scheme at the University of Nottingham, where I am studying, and started volunteering last year.

Our main work is to identify and record objects that the public hand in on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database.

We also assist during outreach sessions at the University of Nottingham Museum, where we talk to visitors about what we do and show them the objects we are working on.

My most memorable moment was being able to identify a Roman coin on my own for the first time. It was fantastic putting into practice my newly acquired knowledge and it made me more enthusiastic about British archaeology.

I studied archaeology and history in Greece and continued with my MA in archaeological research at University of Nottingham, where I am now conducting PhD research.

During my studies, I have volunteered on several archaeological projects in Greece, where I discovered and recorded a wide range of artefacts. These skills have proven to be helpful as a Past  Explorers volunteer as I understand the importance of systematic and accurate recording.
