The John Ellerman Foundation has created a £300,000 fund for regional museums and galleries with a focus on visual and decorative arts, and social and natural history collections.

The aim of the fund is to enhance and sustain curatorial development to attract a broader public. This could include new ways of working for curators, and partnerships to develop and share good practice.

Applicants are encouraged to show an emphasis on the value of curatorial skills; a commitment to excellence, innovation and audience development; strong leadership at board and senior management level; effective financial management; and a lasting legacy.

Applicants must also demonstrate the national significance of their collection or work, and excellence in their field at a national level.

Three or four grants will be made each year, and grants can be for up to three years.

The fund will be distributed annually, with the first deadline for applications on 25 October 2013. The first funding tranche for successful applications is expected to be released in April 2014.
