Collections Trust Award 2019 to focus on ‘use-led’ projects

This year’s award responds to MA’s Empowering Collections report
The Collections Trust Award 2019 is seeking entries that respond to a recommendation in the Museums Association’s Empowering Collections report to prioritise “use-led” collections work.
The award honours the achievements of those who manage collections. It includes a prize of £1,000 for the winning museum to spend on an agreed collections management activity.
The Empowering Collections report sets out a strategy for the future of museum collections, advocating a culture change across the sector to ensure collections are empowering, dynamic and relevant.
The Collections Trust says its focus on use-led projects this year was inspired by a line in the report calling for museums “to expand on the idea of basic collections work, prioritising projects that are ‘use-led’, with clearly identifiable outcomes and high levels of participation with museum users and communities”.
Entrants are invited to submit collections management activities or projects, either ongoing or completed within the past 12 months, that meet this brief. Application is via an online form.
A representative from the winning museum will receive a free place at the Collections Trust conference in Leicester in September.
The deadline for entries is Wednesday 31 July.
