The British Music Experience looking for new home

Funding arrangement with O2 owners comes to an end
The British Music Experience (BME) is looking for a new home for its collection after its funding arrangement with AEG, which owns London’s O2 Centre, came to an end at the end of April.

The collection of contemporary British music memorabilia has been housed at the O2 since 2009. It has had about 500,000 visitors over the five years, including 200,000 school and college pupils.

Its chairman, the music promoter Harvey Goldsmith, had the original idea for the museum and secured the funding from AEG.

Goldsmith said in a statement: “AEG has been fantastic in supporting the museum from its inception.

"When the idea for a home to house the rich history of contemporary music from 1945 was first discussed, it was AEG who came to the table, helped us create the space at the O2, built it and operated it to date. We are eternally grateful for the extraordinary support it has given us.

“The trustees are now looking to the next stage of our development. That means finding a more sustainable home which we hope to have up and running in the near future.”

The BME’s collection will remain under the care of the trustees as they explore options for rehoming it.
