Object Description

Four wheeled baronial dress coach, which bears the coat of arms of the Abinger family to whom it once belonged. It is known as the Abinger Coach.
The coach was made by Barker & Co. of 66 Chandos Street, London in 1830. The coach is made mainly of (painted) wood but also metal (fixings), silver (fittings), glass, fabric (including silk) and leather. Gold and black livery, includes perch pole. Inside are two seats, the interior is silk-lined and at the back there is standing room for a footman. Measurements: 14 ft length, 8 ft height, 6 ½ ft width.
