Detailed findings – working patterns

As part of this research, we wanted to explore the impact of the recent shift to hybrid or remote working. We asked respondents to describe their working pattern:

  • 66% described their working pattern as hybrid – a mix of working on site and working from home
  • 30% described their working pattern as on site – working on site for all contracted hours
  • 4% described their working pattern as remote – working from home for all contracted hours

On-site working

30% described their work pattern as on site – working on site for all contracted hours.

42%
of those working on site felt it had a positive impact on their wellbeing
18%

34%
of those working on site felt it had a negative impact on their wellbeing
6%
of those working on site felt it had a significant negative impact on their wellbeing

Note: the ‘negative impact’ may not be coming from being on site but the nature of the role, for example dealing with angry or unhappy visitors.

We asked all on site workers if they would prefer a hybrid pattern:

69%
of on-site workers would prefer to be a hybrid worker
80%
of this group said this was not possible
as their role does not allow them to work from home
22%
of this group said this was not possible
as their organisation has not adopted a hybrid working policy and staff were unable to work from home
