England: West Midlands representative

Matt Holmes

Period Interpreter, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust

I have been working in museums for seven years. I previously worked for Birmingham Museums for three years before moving to Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, where I have been since 2015. There are many aspects of the sector that motivate me, including visitor engagement, interpretation, social media, exhibitions, curating and working with volunteers. My plan is to eventually become a freelance curator.

I still find time to volunteer for other museums, and in the past I have volunteered with Birmingham Museums, Derby Museums, Erewash Museum and Lapworth Museum amongst others.

I am heavily involved with the Emerging Museum Professional movement in my role as events coordinator and committee member of the West Midlands group. We aim to represent early-career museum professionals on both a regional and national level through regular networking events and online discussions.

I am also working towards completing my AMA, and I am acting as the AMA Support Coordinator for the West Midlands, organising meetups and discussions for AMAers and prospective AMAers in the region.
