Northern Ireland: representative

Elaine Hill

Heritage development officer, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council

I have worked in the museum sector in Northern Ireland for 16 years in curatorial, managerial, learning and development roles. My work has included strategic development, collections management, project management and developing exhibitions and learning programmes.  I was the Accreditation assessor for Northern Ireland in 2013-14. I was also awarded my Associateship of the Museums Association in 2012.

I am a Kids in Museums volunteer, assisting with social media updates, training days and promotion of their work. I am highly engaged in the museum sector through volunteering with Kids in Museums, joining online discussions and regularly tweeting about museums. I also have a good network of working relationships with local voluntary, council and national museums.

Jenny Haslett

Museum manager, Northern Ireland War Memorial

I completed a Masters in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies in 2012 and joined the Northern Ireland War Memorial (NIWM) as education and outreach officer.

For three years I developed and delivered workshops and events for families, school children and community groups, coordinated the publication of a series of history books, and managed the marketing of the museum.

Now as museum manager I am responsible for caring for and developing our collection, delivering quality exhibitions, implementing our audience development plan and maintaining our busy education and outreach programmes, all to standards required by museum accreditation.

My work for the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, National Trust and the NIWM has given me a wealth of experience in collections, education and outreach which I am only too willing to share with others.

I believe great things happen when people share information about their museums, and I believe I could motivate other museum professionals to use the Museums Association as a platform to share their work.

I am passionate about making collections accessible and I am proud to be part of the thriving museum sector in Northern Ireland. I enjoy a challenge, I work well under pressure and I am a confident speaker, all of which I think will make me a great ambassador of the Museums Association as it seeks to increase its profile in Northern Ireland ahead of the conference in 2018.
