North East AMA Support Group

Who are we?

The North East AMA Support Group is a forum which exists to help museum, gallery and other heritage professionals who are working towards the AMA in the region.

Who is the group for?

The group welcomes everyone, from those who are thinking about starting, to those who have made more progress on the AMA. Members are from across the North East, working in a wide variety of organisations and areas of work.

What are our aims?

To motivate members by providing opportunities for meeting and sharing experiences in a supportive, informal atmosphere. To create CPD opportunities responding to members' needs on a regular basis.

To give members a chance to visit different organisations across the region and to keep up to date with best practice and current issues across the variety of areas of work within the sector.

How often and where do we meet?

We hold informal meetings every three months. Meetings are held throughout the region. We contact members about all meetings and CPD opportunities, but members are welcome to drop in and out as time and needs allow. The group members can share contact details, and support each other in between meetings.

Who organises the meetings?

Meetings are organised by the two joint co-ordinators of the group, who welcome input from the group for ideas for meetings/volunteers to host meetings.

The AMA Support Groups are an excellent went of extending your knowledge of the different functions and roles of a museum. It enables you at second hand to meet and interview people that may have a remit for particular areas of the Knowledge Journal; as well as more broadly. So why not drop me a line and see when the next meeting is.

Next Event - Please Share

I have recently joined the MA looking after professional development.

Part of my commitment is to meet as many AMAers as possible and to attend at least one AMA Support Group a year in each of the regions.

Date Wednesday 21st September 2016
Time 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Venue Mauretania Room, Discovery Museum

Content We have yet to establish an agenda – so please let me know if there is as aspect that you would like to focus on – for example we can simply do a CPD Surgery, I can model a Professional Review or we can discuss the new Code of Ethics.

In addition is you know anyone who is thinking about doing their AMA – they too can come along.

To ensure we have enough tea and coffee I would be grateful if you could RSVP by Friday 9th September 2016.

In the meantime if you have any other questions then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Have a great weekend.

Best wishes
