Opportunity: Museums Association Treasurer - Museums Association

Opportunity: Museums Association Treasurer

We’re looking for a trustee to join our board as treasurer for a three-year term
  • Organisation: Museums Association
  • Closing date: 02.04.2023

Job description

We are a small and dynamic membership organisation that campaigns for socially engaged museums and a representative workforce. We work ethically and sustainably and we advocate for and support museums and everyone who works in and with them so that the value and impact of museums and their collections is realised.

We are the only organisation working for all museums in the four nations of the UK. We recognise the differences in context, culture, legislation, policy and practice between the nations and we strive for equitable treatment for all our members in the UK. We are independent and not-for-profit and have a sustainable business model.

This role is a great opportunity to help us take forward our campaigns and policies, and advocate to governments and stakeholders across the UK. Our board is made up of a diverse group of trustees who work in and with museums. The board works closely with the senior management team to deliver our strategic aims.

The role involves attending three hybrid board meetings per year and a board away day. The treasurer is also the chair of the finance committee, which meets online four times per year, and sits on the Beecroft Bequest and Benevolent Fund sub-committees, which meet one to two times per year online.

“The experience and knowledge you bring to the role will help a great organisation support over ten thousand members in challenging times. In return you will enhance your knowledge of the sector and the challenges and opportunities that charities face today. You will strengthen your strategic experience and enhance your career development by gaining an understanding of both the executive and non-executive roles within an organisation.

“This role will give you the chance to work with an enthusiastic board and a dedicated and hardworking executive team who will support you in the role which I hope you will enjoy as much as I have over the past six years.”

Heather Lees, current MA Treasurer

The role is unremunerated but expenses are reimbursed.
