Competition to present 10-minute icebreaker at the MA's early-career conference
Come up with a creative icebreaker idea and win a free place at Moving on Up – the Museums Association’s career development and networking conference, which will take place at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh on 28 February.

Museum professionals are being asked to develop simple and creative icebreaker that they would be happy to present at Moving on Up. The best entry will win a free place (worth up to £115) at the one-day conference designed for museum professionals in the first five years of their career.

The aim of the icebreaker is to get delegates talking, help people find common ground and lighten the mood. Icebreakers should be suitable for a large group of people seated around conference tables.

Example icebreakers include getting delegates to introduce each other in an exciting way, picking a topic out of a hat to discuss with their table, short activities and games. Proposals  free to use simple props, link the activity to social media or include role play.

“We are looking for fun and simple icebreaker ideas that are suitable for an audience of museum professionals at the beginning of their careers,” said Nicola Sullivan, who is responsible for the Moving on Up 2017 programme.

“Presenting an ice breaker at Moving on Up is also a great opportunity to raise your profile among your peers and senior museum professionals.”

Please email a short description of your icebreaker to by 5pm on 6 February 2017.

Chaired by consultant, facilitator and coach Hilary Carty, Moving on Up 2017 aims to empower and inspire a proactive museum staff who challenge themselves and the sector, and includes keynotes, practical sessions and speed mentoring.
