Museums Association freezes rates for the third year running
Delegate rates for the Museums Association’s (MA) annual conference and exhibition have been frozen.

Booking is now open for the event which will take place at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham from 5-6 November.

The event, which has the theme of Radical Futures, comes at a critical time for museums, galleries and heritage sites. The sector is being affected by changing politics, cuts, devolution and shifting public expectations.

Delegates will have the opportunity to debate and discuss these issues with colleagues from around the UK and abroad.

Among those speaking at the event are Darren Henley, the chief executive of Arts Council England and David Fleming, the president of the MA and the director of National Museums Liverpool.

There will also be a series of linked sessions that will challenge some of the assumptions and myths surrounding the diversity debate. These sessions will also look at how museums can diversify audiences and work with local communities to tell different stories.

Simon Stephens, the MA’s head of publications and events, said: “The event comes at a critical time for museums, galleries and heritage sites, which are grappling with a number of challenges relating to funding cuts, diversity and maintaining high ethical standards. The theme Radical Futures will explore how museums can tackle these challenges while catering for changing public expectations and planning for the future.

“There will also be lots of networking opportunities at the conference that will bring together professionals from the UK and abroad.”
