Taylor stresses importance of Federations to the sector

The Museums Association met Federations from around the UK this week to discuss their role as the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) transfers its functions over to Arts Council England, changes are being made to Renaissance and uncertainty shrouds the future of the Museum Development Officer network.

The meeting, which took place at the MA's offices in London, also touched on the MA’s new board and the appointment of regional correspondents, the MA’s work on collections knowledge and skills, and the new fund run on behalf of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

From the MLA, director of programme delivery Hedley Swain and Renaissance project manager Isabel Churcher also attended.

It was agreed that another meeting would be held later this year.

Mark Taylor, the MA’s director, said: “The MA puts a great deal of importance on the Federations and other bodies, and wishes to strengthen links with them, particularly as the regional and national support structures are now seriously diminished.”
