Planning is underway for the Museums Association (MA) Conference and Exhibition in Cardiff next year.

Sharon Heal, head of publications and events at the MA, said she was delighted that the conference would be coming to Wales and that she wanted to see content that reflected the cultural landscape of the country.

“The conference panel is looking for big new ideas that represent the topical debates that we have to have as a sector.

“We also want to see different formats where possible – we’re encouraging off-site sessions to explore Cardiff’s cultural venues and we’ll be looking for session proposals that are challenging, provocative and fun.”

The conference will take place at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay and organisers are aiming to provide social and networking events that allow delegates to discover the city’s heritage and experience Welsh culture.

Heledd Fychan, advocacy and policy coordinator for Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales, said: “A lot has changed since the MA conference last came to Wales in 1997. We now have our own Assembly and government, and culture is devolved. Heritage is an integral part of Welsh identity and culture, and we are looking forward to welcoming colleagues from across the UK and beyond and showcasing what Wales has to offer.”
