The Museums Association (MA) has announced the programmes for its next two MA Members’ Meetings in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Both events will end with receptions to launch a new publication about Museums Change Lives, the MA’s flagship campaign to enhance the positive social impact that museums can deliver working with their communities.

The Members’ Meeting in Northern Ireland is on 13 September at the Ulster Museum, Belfast. It features a workshop by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation that will focus on what has been learned from Our Museum, its programme to encourage museums and galleries to work in active partnership with their communities.

Other speakers in Belfast will include Paddy Gilmore, the head of programmes at National Museums Northern Ireland and an MA board member; MA director Sharon Heal; and the MA’s two Northern Ireland representatives – Elaine Hill, the heritage development officer at Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, and Jenny Haslett, the museum manager at the Northern Ireland War Memorial.

Attendees will get the chance to hear about the MA’s plan for its annual conference in Belfast in 2018.

The Members’ Meeting in Scotland is on 19 September at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Speakers include Gillian Findlay, the curatorial and engagement manager at City of Edinburgh Council and an MA board member.

MA policy officer Alistair Brown will lead an advocacy workshop while Tamsin Russell, the MA's professional development officer, will discuss workforce issues.

MA representatives Nicola Wilson, the collections management project officer at Renfrewshire Leisure, and Christine McLean, the community engagement manager, at National Museums Scotland, will also be speaking.

MA members’ meetings are open to all individual and corporate members as well as to any staff member whose institution is a member.
