Scheme allows galleries to offer small, interest free loans to art buyers
Arts Council England’s (ACE) Own Art scheme is now open to applications from galleries and arts organisations in England.

The scheme encourages the public to buy contemporary art, craft, photography and sculpture from member galleries by offering people 10-month, interest free loans of between £100 and £2,000 to enable them to spread the cost of their purchase.
Membership of Own Art can be a useful tool for attracting new audiences and boosting sales. According to the arts council, 52% of member galleries surveyed at the end of 2010/11 said that the scheme had made a significant impact on their business.

At present, the scheme is operated through over 250 galleries across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, although only galleries based in England can apply during this round.

Current members include the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London and Blackwell, the Arts and Crafts House in the Lake District.

The closing date for application is Monday 6 February 2012.
