Keynote on museum as "moral reparation project"
The keynote speaker line-up has been announced for this year’s Museums Association (MA) conference on 11 and 12 November in Liverpool.

Headlining this year’s event is Ricardo Brodsky, the director of the Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Chile.

Brodsky said he was honoured to be asked to speak at the conference.

“I'm going to talk about the museum of memory as a moral reparation project for the victims of the dictatorship and how it deals with a controversial issue in a society where the story told is still alive.”

Broadcaster and chief curator at Historic Royal Palaces Lucy Worsley will talk to delegates about her experience of making television programmes. Worsley, who has made six series for the BBC, said she wants to share her knowledge of being an on-screen curator as well as giving delegates a how-to guide to appearing on TV.

David Anderson, the director of Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museums Wales, will give his MA presidential address to conference on Monday afternoon. Anderson said he will talk about the growing funding disparity that is opening up between national and non-national museums and the need for the MA to represent those institutions that are struggling in these challenging times.

He added that he wanted to talk about the importance of providing a public service for the whole of the public.

Also speaking at the conference is the shadow culture minister Dan Jarvis who will address the impact of the cuts and outline Labour’s plan for culture.

The final keynote is still under wraps. Sharon Heal, the head of publications and events at the MA, said she didn’t want to spill the beans at this stage.

“We want to end conference with a bang. Last year we had the wonderful storyteller-in-residence Donald Smith and this year will be equally exciting. Expect the unexpected.”

Early bird booking for Liverpool 2013 is available to delegates who book before 30 August.
