Careers Hub features sessions to help you get ahead
The Careers Hub, located in the Exhibition Hall at the Museums Association Conference and Exhibition 2016 in Glasgow, will help visitors and delegates further their careers in museums and galleries.

Free to attend, the hub will feature sessions on topics including networking, CV-writing, interview technique, volunteering, taking risks, and flexible working.

Attendees will hear from a range of speakers who will share their years of experience of working in museums, including Isabel Churcher, the relationship manager, museums, at Arts Council England, Catherine Cartmell, the skills development manager at Museums Galleries Scotland, and museum consultant Lyndsey Clark.

Tamsin Russell, the MA’s professional development officer, says: “Our conference careers offer has gone from strength-to-strength, from our fringe events to the Careers Café and culminating this year with our first Careers Hub.

“The hub provides even more opportunities to reflect, listen and learn about current thinking about careers in the sector. We have our go-to favourites about writing CVs and interview techniques, but we have also added a number of other workshops that look to meet the needs of volunteers, freelancers and others within the sector.

“So whether you are just thinking about starting out or you are well established, there should be plenty to get your teeth into.

“And in addition to us sharing information we also want to hear from you. The MA is currently developing a new strategy for professional development and we are interested in your views so there will be an opportunity to review our current ideas and build upon them in our focus groups.

“If you have any queries at conference then members of the MA team will be available to answer questions about it all at the MA stand in the Exhibition Hall.”
