The Museums Association has commissioned pollsters BritainThinks to carry out research into public attitudes to museums, as part of Museums 2020.

Maurice Davies, the MA’s head of policy and research, said: “We picked BritainThinks out of the 25 applicants because they have huge experience of deliberative research and bring a very thoughtful approach to exploring what the public thinks about the purpose of museums.

“At the heart of their work will be six day-long events with a representative cross-section of the population, including regular-, occasional-, and non-visitors of museums. “Progress reports will be posted on our website following the events, and the final report is due to be published in late March.”

The research project has received funding from Arts Council England, Museums Galleries Scotland and CyMAL: Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales.
