The Museums Association has announced that Iain Watson, the director of Tyne & Wear Archives and Museums (TWAM), is to join the MA Board.

Watson will fill the vacancy left by outgoing Board member John Orna-Ornstein, who has resigned in advance of his new role as director of museums at Arts Council England.

Watson has been on the senior management team at TWAM since 2001, following 18 years’ experience in the cultural and heritage sector. He is the MA’s regional representative in the North East and has written and lectured extensively on museums, learning and heritage.

In a personal statement, Watson said: “I have maintained a strong relationship with research activity whilst dedicating the majority of my career to ensuring wider access and inclusion in cultural organisations.”

Watson will join the MA Board until the end of March 2014.
