Gabrielle Heffernan, the curatorial manager at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery Trust in Carlisle, has been appointed north west England Representative for the Museums Association (MA).

The position, which lasts for three years, will see Heffernan representing the MA at Members' Meetings in north west England, communicating with members in the area, and helping to shape the MA's policies so that they address the needs of the whole of the UK.

Heffernan has worked in museums for more than a decade, beginning as a volunteer and then as a curatorial trainee at the British Museum. She then worked as an assistant curator at Hull Museums, while completing a PhD in Egyptology and achieving Associateship of the Museums Association

In her current role as curatorial manager at Tullie House, Heffernan oversees collections management and curatorial work, and plays an active part in the Cumbria Museums Consortium.

"We are delighted that Gabrielle is joining us as north west England Representative," says Sophie Lawson, the MA's membership officer. "Her experience and energy will be an enormous asset to the MA and our members in north west England."
