Last call for Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund

Patrick Steel, 03.09.2013
Deadline for sixth round on 13 September
The Museums Association (MA) is encouraging applications for the sixth round of the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund before the deadline on Friday 13 September.

The deadline is for initial applications in a two-stage process: after receipt of stage one applications, the MA will invite approximately 15 applicants to move on to the second stage.

Those selected will be asked to complete a full application for consideration by the Collections Fund selection committee and will have access to more detailed advice and feedback from MA staff.

Applicants can request sums of between £20,000 and £100,000 for time-limited collections work outside the scope of an organisation’s core resources.

So far 33 projects have received grants in the first five rounds of the fund, with grants from £20,000 to £100,000 being awarded to a range of types and sizes of museums from across the UK.

Charlotte Holmes, the MA’s museum development officer, said: “This is a unique and exciting opportunity for museums to apply for funding to develop their collections.

“The fund really encourages museums to think differently about how they could improve use, understanding and appreciation of collections.

“We would urge any museums that have a good idea for developing their collections in this way to make an initial application.”

Invitations to make full applications will be made by 25 September 2013, and the deadline for full applications is 31 October 2013.
