National strategy up for discussion at free event
The implementation of the new Scottish museums strategy will be up for discussion at the Museums Association’s (MA) next members’ meeting on 12 June at the St Mungo Museum of Religious Life in Glasgow.

The free event will run from 10am until 4pm and is open to all individual, institutional and corporate MA members living or working in Scotland. The MA introduced members’ meetings in order to keep members informed and to give them more input in the policies and direction of the association.

Rowan Brown, director of the Scottish Mining Museum and member of the MA board, will chair the event in Glasgow.

During the morning, there will be a discussion on how the new national strategy will be implanted. Tamsin Russel, president of the Scottish Museums Federation, and David Taylor, portfolio manager special projects at Creative Scotland, will then discuss the current cultural landscape and how the needs of Scottish museums and their staff can be met.

During the afternoon, Maurice Davies, head of policy and communication at the MA, will lead an interactive Museums 2020 workshop - the MA's new work to create a dynamic vision for the whole museum sector. It will also provide engaging discussion and new networking opportunities.

Brown said: “The members’ meeting is a great opportunity during the Year of Creative Scotland for museums to come together for an open and frank discussion about the issues facing the sector and to find ways we can work together to be more effective.

"It is also an exciting chance to input into Museums 2020 and think about the future of museums in Scotland.”

Places at the MA Scottish members' meeting are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

The MA would like to thank the Amgueddfa cymru (National Museum Wales), Leeds City Museum, the British Museum, New Walk Museum in Leicester and St Mungo Museum of Religious Life in Glasgow for providing venues for members’ meetings free of charge.
