ACE awards £183,780 to MA for workforce development and public research
The MA was today awarded £183,780 from Arts Council England’s strategic support fund towards the creation of a workforce action plan based on the Cultural Heritage Blueprint, which was authored by the MA earlier this year.

Mark Taylor, the MA’s director, said: “Much progress has been made on developing the museum workforce in the last decade and it is good to see the arts council investing in this important area.

“Working with the arts council and Creative & Cultural Skills, the Museums Association is pleased to be leading the sector in developing an action plan to maintain the impetus of the last few years.”

The action plan will be in place by March 2013.

The funding will also go towards continuing the MA’s successful Monument Fellowship programme, bringing back retired curators to share their knowledge with others in the sector; and towards research into public attitudes towards museums, which will inform Museums 2020, the MA’s project to create a vision for the future of museums.

Museums will be invited to apply for Monument Fellowship funding before the end of 2012. Set-up and training for fellows will be in place by March 2013, with the fellowships beginning in April 2013.
