Museums Journal's deputy editor Simon Stephens to take on role
The Museums Association (MA) has appointed Simon Stephens as its head of publications and events.

Stephens has been with the MA since 2006 and was previously the deputy editor of Museums Journal, the association’s monthly news, comments and features magazine. He has worked in journalism for more than 20 years.

Stephens’ new role includes leading the development of the MA’s print and online publications to produce content across a range of platforms, and editing Museums Journal.

Stephens will also take the lead on the MA’s annual conference and exhibition, the biggest gathering of museum professionals in Europe.

As a member of the MA’s senior management team, Stephens will contribute to the policies and strategic development of the association.

He said: “What I’ve always really enjoyed about working at the MA is getting out there and meeting the people who work in museums, galleries and heritage sites and hearing about their passion for what they do. There is so much exciting work going on in areas such as collections, audience development, education and digital engagement, which makes it a fascinating sector to be part of.

“We have loads of plans to develop and improve our publications and events programme and I’m looking forward to working with the sector to take these ideas forward.”

Stephens has been the acting editor of Museums Journal for the past four months and replaces the MA’s former head of publications and events, Sharon Heal, who took over as the director of the association in November last year.
