ACE scheme to help organisations develop environmental practice

Deadline approaching for expressions of interest to Accelerator programme
Arts Council England (ACE) is looking to recruit 10 cultural organisations in England for a programme to develop innovative and enterprising approaches to environmental practice.
Now in its second round, the Accelerator Programme is open to any arts and cultural organisations, not just those in the ACE portfolio. Participants will work with the global environmental charity Julie’s Bicycle, whose aim is to support the arts and cultural sector to act on climate breakdown.
The programme will provide the space, resource, time and expertise necessary for organisations to develop their ideas around environmental practice into tangible projects.
Between April 2020 and September 2021, participating organisations will receive support through tailored mentoring and one-to-one support, as well as a training programme adapted from Julie’s Bicycle’s Creative Climate Leadership course.
Participants in the first round of the programme are currently working on projects that include green touring models, products generated from festival waste and the development of roadmaps on city-wide carbon reduction.
There is a three-stage application process for the programme. Interested organisations or consortiums should submit an expression of interest to Julie’s Bicycle by 7 June 2019; a selection of organisations will then be invited to attend a half-day workshop in July 2019 to further develop their ideas, before submitting full proposals by 14 October 2019.
The charity's guidance states: "We’d like to see projects that aim at pushing the boundaries and disrupting existing models."
The director of Julie’s Bicycle, Alison Tickell, said: “Action is contagious and we are already experiencing the energy and charge from the cohort of creative climate innovators in 2019. The Accelerator community represents new and vital leadership that needs to scale across the arts and culture."
Environmental issues will be central to this year’s Museums Association’s Annual Conference, whose theme is Sustainable and Ethical Museums in a Globalised World. The conference runs 3-5 October in Brighton
