Staff at National Museums Liverpool (NML) have been told around 67 jobs will be cut as the organisation undergoes a restructure following funding cuts. Some new posts will be created, meaning a net loss of around 38 jobs.

An NML spokesman said he could not disclose further details, but Museums Journal understands the cuts will include administration roles and senior positions.

All of NML’s venues were closed for a day last week while staff were told the news, following an announcement last month that the organisation would be running a voluntary redundancy scheme, its fourth in as many years.

NML director David Fleming said: “It is vital that we discuss with our staff face-to-face our current funding plight and what it means to them in terms of jobs.

“Tragically, it’s inevitable that we will lose valuable staff. We are continuing to talk to all our staff and unions during this difficult and unsettling period.”

NML’s budget has shrunk by almost a third since 2010, and since then 94 members of staff have taken voluntary redundancy.
