£97,500 fund for independent museums in England and Wales

AIM Hallmarks Awards supports organisational change
The Association of Independent Museums (AIM) is offering £75,000 to museums in England and £22,500 to museums in Wales that use AIM's Hallmarks of Prospering Museums to improve the way they work.

Museums can apply to the AIM Hallmarks Awards for grants of £5,000 to £15,000.

Projects can be linked to any of the hallmarks but must seek to support change at a strategic level or have an impact on organisational culture and behaviour.

Work funded by an AIM Hallmarks Award must be demonstrably central to an applicant museum’s organisational development, and closely linked to the museum’s strategic plan. Museums must be able to show that the work undertaken using the grant could not have taken place without external support.

Helen Wilkinson, AIM's assistant director, said: "The AIM Hallmarks Awards help museums in England and Wales test out new ways of working and support organisational change.

"We can fund a really wide range of work – as long as its ultimate aim is to put the museum in a stronger position for the future.

"We've been delighted to fund projects to grow audiences, including at Cardiff Story and at the Charles Dickens Museum, who used our funding to commission a promotional video featuring Miriam Margolyes and Simon Callow.

"And we've been pleased to help museums develop new ways of working, from new approaches to collecting in Rhayader Museum and Gallery to testing out a new corporate away day offer at the Royal West of England Academy."

The awards are funded by Arts Council England and the Welsh Government. This is the third and final round of funding. In total, the AIM Hallmarks Awards will have invested £175,000 in museums in England and £45,000 in museums in Wales.

The deadline for applications is 15 May. Museums are encouraged to contact AIM for advice before submitting a proposal.
