Former disability minister Maria Miller appointed as new culture secretary
Jeremy Hunt is leaving the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), it has been confirmed.

Hunt, who has been the coalition's secretary of state for culture since May 2010, was appointed health secretary in today's cabinet reshuffle.

As culture secretary, he presided over a 50% cut to the department's running costs, a 15% cut to Renaissance in the Regions and the abolition of several quangos, including the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).

Hunt survived calls to resign earlier this year when it was revealed to the Leveson Inquiry that his office had maintained a close relationship with representatives from News Corporation while assessing the company's bid for a majority stake in BSkyB.

His replacement as culture secretary has been named as Maria Miller, former minister for disabled people at the Department for Work and Pensions.
