Events mark slavery day

A host of museums gear up for 23 August
Museums across England are preparing to mark International Slavery Remembrance Day on 23 August.

The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London, will hold a series of events in its Atlantic Worlds gallery, including an alternative tour of the gallery by actor and director Burt Caesar.

The Museum of London is to open a display entitled Freedom From: Modern Slavery in the Capital, which considers the impact of human trafficking and enslavement in London today, and will run from 23 August to 20 November.

The International Slavery Museum in Liverpool will host a lecture by Maulana Karenga, founder of black power organisation Us, on 22 August.
