What are you most looking forward to at the MA conference?
Alex Bird, Sector development officer, Museum Development North West

“With the conference being on home turf this year, I’m thrilled to see north-west England so well represented in the programme, and I’m keen to see local writer Lemn Sissay give his thoughts on the museum sector. As I’ve been to the MA Conference several times, I’m also looking forward to the additions to this year’s programme, in particular the Festival of Change. The programme looks fantastic and I’m keen to see how this element will allow for a new and innovative means of debate, networking and participation.”

Janneke Geene, Head of special collections, Manchester Metropolitan Museum

“As the collections theme coordinator on the conference panel, I can’t wait for the many collections-related sessions. Conference is an amazing opportunity to refresh my thinking, meet colleagues and be inspired by all the daring and bold work going on around the country. So much is changing in how we approach collections: the lenses through which we look at them as professionals and how we share ownership of them with our visitors. How and what we actively collect is changing too. For many museums, social purpose has become more central and is driving strategies.”

Simon Brown, Curator of collections, Newstead Abbey

“I am very excited to see the Festival of Change at this year’s MA Conference & Exhibition. It’s wonderful to introduce an entirely new element to the event, and it has given us the opportunity to work with a large group of new people, which can only be of benefit. I hope that the interventions can help delegates engage with the issues explored in the wider programme. I am also looking forward to visiting as many new museums as possible on the third day of conference, as it’s a great opportunity to explore Manchester.”

Tamsin Russell, Professional development officer, Museums Association

“The MA Conference & Exhibition just gets better year on year. I am looking forward to the elements I know and love – the evening receptions, the Museum Practice Workshop sessions, and the ‘in conversation’ sessions.

And I am even more excited about the newer elements of the event – the Careers Hub, Festival of Change and the MA Hub – where I will be spending most of my time. Finally, I am looking forward to being inspired by the great talent that works in the sector and comes together to learn and celebrate.”
