Changes to membership 2019
New packages and benefits to offer members more choice
Offering more choice
After a year-long consultation with more than 1,000 members across the sector, as well as looking at best practice from comparator membership organisations, we have streamlined our membership grades and put an emphasis on diversifying benefits to offer greater choice for members.
Individual membership changes
From 1 April we will offer an essential level of individual membership which does not include a print copy of Museums Journal. For members who prefer to read their publications online, essential membership offers the same great Museums Journal content on the Museums Association website.
Another important change is the addition of CPD membership, which incorporates an annual fee for our CPD schemes, and reduces the cost of undertaking the AMA by getting rid of the registration and professional review fees.
Convenient payment options
You can now opt to pay by monthly, quarterly or annual direct debit, making it easier to spread the cost of your membership to a frequency that suits you. For example essential membership will only cost £4.50 per month.
New membership and renewals can be bought online via our secure portal.
2019/2020 Individual membership fees
If you renew your existing membership or purchase new membership after 1 April 2019 the new prices as shown above will apply. If you renew your existing membership or purchase new membership before this date the 2018/19 fees will apply.
Current Direct Debit payees
If you were previously in a salaried, international or friends, trustees, paid non-professionals category you will now automatically be transferred to our full member category and be charged £23.50 quarterly.
If you were previously in a student, retired, unwaged or volunteer category you will be transferred to the same category and charged £15.50 quarterly.
If you were previously in the international online category you will be transferred to the essential member category and charged £12.50 quarterly.
If you are currently paying by direct debit and wish to change the frequency or grade of membership please contact our membership team on 020 7566 7880.
Changes to institutional membership
Changes to institutional membership reduce the number of bands by one and offer a more inclusive rate for more smaller museums. The new bands and rates are more directly linked to organisational turnover.
There are also new and improved benefits – in particular, the offer of free recruitment advertising to all institutional members of the MA. As the go-to place for sector recruitment, this will be a substantial benefit for institutional members, potentially saving considerable expenditure.
