Object Description

A model of a 16th century Spanish or Portuguese galleon. It is mounted on a small white wooden base, dated to 1880-1930. Three masted sailing ship, the hull painted red, blue and white with leather strap detail. Two crested motifs to either side of bow, main mast with viewing platform. Formed billowing sails made from painted leather. Such models were made to be items of interior décor as replicas of much earlier models rather than as an accurate representation of the vessel concerned and could be found in homes, hotels, pubs and even churches. 640mm x 660mm x 170mm.
