Museums Association annual conference & exhibition

Theme - Dissent: Inspiring Hope, Embracing Change

The Museums Association Conference & Exhibition is the biggest event of its kind in Europe for museum and heritage professionals. It showcases inspiring work from across the world that places museums at the heart of communities and transforms people’s lives.

Why attend?

A dynamic theme
Our theme is dissent and having the courage to challenge traditional thinking to transform museums and society. And what better place to do this than Belfast. We highlight the role
museums of all sizes and types can play as dissenting organisations, standing with their communities as they encourage activism and promote positive social change.

Insipring speakers
We are lining up a range of speakers and keynotes that promise to provoke, inspire and challenge us. They cover topics such as co-curation, activism, curating conflict, diversity, equality, protest, Brexit, soft power, and the future of collections.

Practical sdvice
A packed programme of talks, case studies and training on audiences, learning, collections, interpretation, design and technology, as well as essential careers advice.

Festival of Change

A series of creative interventions exploring the serious issues we’re all grappling with while indulging in some muchneeded fun. Who says change has to be painful?

Networking
With nearly 2,000 attendees from across the world, there are plenty of opportunities to network, including at our social events at the Belfast City Hall, Ulster Museum and HMS Caroline.

A warm welcome
Belfast is the 2018 Lonely Planet number one destination in the world. And with attractions such as Titanic Belfast, Ulster Museum, Hillsborough Castle, Giant’s Causeway as well as being the set location for Game of Thrones there is so much to see and do. Come and enjoy the inspiring
culture of this welcoming and historic city.

Our hosts have put on an amazing free programme of cultural and political tours in Belfast, Downpatrick, Dublin and Derry~Londonderry, the UK City of Culture 2013.
