Bethlem Art & History Collections Trust (The Museum of the Mind)
£45,000 - £53,000 Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (permanent contract)
We are looking to appoint a highly-skilled and experienced Museum and Archive Director for the Bethlem Museum of the Mind.
The Museum is home to the largest collection of mental health archives, art and artefacts in the UK. The archive, which is continuous since 1547, is internationally renowned. Our aim is to make our collections accessible to a wide audience, promoting art, mental health and history to reduce stigma and increase understanding and empathy for people experiencing mental health problems, past and present.
Three years ago, the Archives and Museum relocated into the refurbished 1930s art deco building dominating the entrance to the Hospital, which is set in extensive grounds. The Museum is now an outstanding environment for our archive and collections, our permanent exhibition and valuable space for temporary exhibitions and education and learning.
In 2016 The Museum of the Mind was a finalist for the Art Fund Museum of the Year award.
We are looking to appoint a highly-skilled and experienced Director of Museum and Archives to help us on the next stage of our development. Our ambitions are high and include increased visitor numbers, enhanced learning and development, improved fundraising, increasing the retail offer and online presence.
