Themes

Radical Futures
The central theme of conference 2015 is Radical Futures.

The future of museums is up for grabs. Conference comes at a critical time for the sector: changing politics, cuts and devolution are all having an impact on our institutions and, crucially, what the public needs and expects from us.

Delegates will have the opportunity to debate and discuss the big ideas with colleagues from around the UK and internationally.

How will diversity, ethics, funding and cultural value affect what we do and how we operate? Conference is a vital forum for debate, exchange and networking – join us for the biggest event of its kind in Europe and help shape the future of museums.

Diversity Forum

How can museums put words into action and create a more diverse workforce? A series of linked sessions will challenge some of the assumptions and myths surrounding the diversity debate.

The lack of diversity in the workforce has been the subject of much debate but little has changed. Birmingham 2015 will explore how we can move away from a monocultural workforce and support a wider range of people to access careers in museums.

Sessions will also look at how we can diversify audiences and work with local communities to tell different stories.
