Grants and bursaries to attend Manchester 2017

Museums Association

The Museums Association (MA) is offering 50 subsidised places at £128 each for anyone working at a small or medium-sized museum that is also an institutional member of the MA. Offer is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Association of Independent Museums (AIM)

AIM is offering its members training grants of up to £300, which can be used to attend Manchester 2017. Priority will be given to smaller museums receiving less than 50,000 visitors.

Grants are considered on a rolling basis.

Welsh Museums Federation (WMF)

WMF is offering grants of up to £1,000 to staff at non-national museums in Wales for fees, travel and subsistence at conference.

Essex Museum Development (EMD)

EMD is offering two bursaries for first-time attendees from museums in Essex to cover attendance at the conference for all three days and up to £100 towards travel, accommodation and other expenses.

Deadline is Friday 7 July.

Museum Development Yorkshire (MDY)

MDY is sponsoring one free place at Manchester 2017. Closing date for applications is 20 September.

In addition, MDY’s Small Grants Fund supports the attendance of training courses and conferences. MDY offer grants of up to £3,000 (with two tiers of up to £1,000 and up to £3,000), but would expect the applicant’s museum to make an appropriate contribution in kind or in cash.

In exceptional circumstances grants for 100% of project costs will be considered.

The fund is available on an open application basis but museums are encouraged to talk to a Museum Development Officer before making a submission.

Grants are considered on a rolling basis.

The South East Museums Development Programme (SEMDP)

SEMDP, with funding from Arts Council England, has a number of development grants for museum professionals in the south east of England. Grants of up to £2,000 are available to applicants in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire, Hampshire Solent and Kent, and Kent and Medway.

And for applicants in Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex, bursaries of between £100 and £1,000 are available on a rolling basis.

Midlands Federation

Personal members of the Federation can apply for a bursary for their first attendance at any residential conference organised by a museum-related group with a UK national remit.

The bursary can be for any amount up to the total advertised cost of the conference, including conference and residential fees (travel to the venue is not included).

Bursaries are assessed by the Federation’s council on a rolling basis.

Museum Development North West (MDNW)

MDNW will be offering eight free places at the conference to first-time delegates from museums in the North West.

Expressions of interest should be made to MDNW before 22 September.
