For all those NW members attending MA Conference this year - make sure you attend the session 'Last man standing? Federations of the future' on Monday afternoon. Chaired by Piotr Bienkowski, the Chair of the NWFED, the session will provide the chance for you be involved in a discussion about the role of the FEDs now and in the future. See you there!

A call for papers for everyone working in the North West - thought it might be of interest - please do let me know if you would like more information.
Conference title: Whose history is it anyway? ‘Public’ history in perspective Provisional date: 18-20 June 2012 Location: University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK
This is a multi-disciplinary conference aimed at a wide range of history and heritage practitioners. Papers are invited from academic historians, those working or volunteering in the museum, heritage and archives sectors, those working in the media, film makers, funding bodies, policy makers, publishers, along with family, local and community historians.
The conference will explore issues of public engagement in history, the role of professionals in mediating knowledge of history, the role of institutions in interpreting and communicating knowledge and perspectives, and the role that society and the public have in preserving, mediating, creating and communicating their own histories.
Suggested themes include: Family/community history and heritage, Institutionalised history and heritage, History, heritage, politics and funding, History, heritage and class, Presenting history and heritage.
Proposals are invited for single papers or panels. Please contact me if you would like more information. Katy.archer@phm.org.uk.
The North West Federation will be holding its annual meeting on the morning of 15th September at the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool. You will have an opportunity to hear and meet two key people involved in the changing landscape: Eve MacPhee, the new Museums Relationship Manager for the Arts Council North West, and Mark Taylor, the Director of the Museums Association. There will also be a special tour of the newly opened Museum of Liverpool and an opportunity to meet members of the Museum of Liverpool team. Katy will also be there, and looks forward to meeting you and hearing your views.
