North West AMA Support Group
Who are we?
The North West AMA Support Group was launched in December 2002 and is a forum which exists to help museum professionals working towards the AMA in the region.
Who is the group for?
The group is for anyone doing the AMA, or thinking of starting it. We currently have about 40 members working towards their AMA. Members are from across the North West, from Cumbria to north Wales and are from a wide variety of museum backgrounds, working in a wide variety of institutions.
What are our aims?
To create opportunities for prospective AMAs to meet others in the region, discuss issues and chat informally about CPD and the museums profession.
Give members a chance to visit different museums around the region and keep up to date with what is happening in different areas of the profession.
To create CDP opportunities through members hosting or contributing to meetings.
To be respondent to members' needs by providing information about the AMA and CPD and organising sessions that are relevant.
How often do we meet?
Meetings are held every two months, usually for an afternoon. Meetings usually have a theme and are held at different venues across the North West.
They usually involve a tour, informal presentations/speakers, and time to chat/network. Members are contacted about all meetings but are welcome to drop in and out as time and needs allow.
Outside of meetings, members have each other's email addresses and are encouraged to use this as a forum for discussion and support.
Who organises the meetings?
Meetings are organised by the two joint co-ordinators of the group, who welcome input from the group for ideas for meetings/volunteers to host meetings.
