CPD Plan

Becoming a well-rounded museum professional
The focus of the AMA is on developing as a well-rounded museum professional. We want you to develop a range of expertise as defined by the AMA criteria that supports your own overarching career aspiration.

You can begin drafting your CPD Plan as soon as you wish as your thinking in your Knowledge Journal will have given you insights into what you need to develop. When you have a mentor they will also support you in developing your CPD Plan for submission.

The CPD Plan asks you to think about your:

• career aspirations
• where would you like to be at the end of your AMA – 2-3 years away; and
• also further in the future.

Once you have defined your career aspirations you can begin to think about the steps to achieve them.

The CPD Plan has three columns:

Where – create a destination statement; an outcome or a goal.

You need to create five statements or goals, one of which will be:

• To be awarded the AMA.

What – identify the knowledge, skills and experience you need to develop to reach your Where.

How – the development activities you need to undertake to develop the Whats to help reach your Where.

When you have completed the CPD Plan and it has been reviewed and approved by your mentor send it to cpd@museumsassociation.org where it will be externally verified.

If you have any questions about the CPD Plan then please email cpd@museumsassociation.org
