There are a number of networking opportunities for first-time delegates at the Museums Association Conference and Exhibition 2017, beginning with a welcome reception at The Whitworth on Wednesday 15 November at 7pm.

At 7.45am on Thursday 16 November, the first-time delegates’ breakfast offers a chance to meet fellow first-timers, hear about how to get the best out of conference, and meet Museums Association staff, board members and representatives.

And there are more networking opportunities that evening at the conference party, which takes place that evening at 7pm at the Museum of Science and Industry. First-time delegates are also invited to sign up via the conference app to Come Dine With Me at 9pm, for the chance to join sector leaders and MA staff members for dinner.

There will also be opportunities to meet MA staff, board members and representatives throughout the conference at the MA Hub, in Exchange Hall, where the exhibition takes place.

And on Saturday, first-time delegates are encouraged to get to know Manchester’s museums through a series of behind the scenes tours at the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art, Manchester Art Gallery, The Whitworth, Manchester Museum, Greater Manchester Transport Museum, National Football Museum, Greater Manchester Police Museum, and Castlefield Gallery.

Simon Stephens, the MA’s head of publications and events, said: “If you are a first-time delegate, then the MA conference a fantastic place to meet colleagues, peers, and suppliers who can help you in your day-to-day job and your career.

“There are opportunities to rub shoulders with museum professionals at every stage of their career, find out about the latest practice and contribute to the ongoing debate about the future direction of the sector.

“We look forward to welcoming first-time delegates to Manchester for what promises to be an exciting few days of events, discussions and networking.”
