The Museums Association (MA) team will be joining a host of other museum, archive and heritage professions to march at the London Pride parade this Saturday.

Organised by the LGBT Staff Network at Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG), the march will be the first time that the UK museums and archives sector is officially represented at Pride. The MA will be carrying a banner reading: “UK museums and archives: proud to represent LGBTQ+ lives.”

Staff from RMG, the Natural History Museum, Tate, the National Archives and the Science Museum, will be among those marching under the MA’s banner.

The march is seen an opportunity to celebrate museums as LGBTQ+ friendly spaces and build momentum across the museum sector ahead of 2017, a year that marks the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of male homosexuality.

Museum professionals will be coming prepared with LGBTQ+ stories from their collections to share at the parade.

Follow the MA’s Twitter @MuseumsAssoc and Instagram acccounts, and the hashtag #MuseumPrideLDN for pictures and updates from the march.
