Go into partnership with your eyes open, says Taylor

MA director strikes note of caution in latest blog
Taking inspiration from the new era of government co-operation, MA director Mark Taylor has addressed the issue of partnerships in his blog for the Local Government Association (LGA).

Taylor warned that, although cultural sector partnerships are tempting in the current economic climate, they need commitment from both sides and an understanding of shared goals in order to work.

According to Taylor, this message is particularly pertinent to the local government sector. He said: “As the money gets squeezed, public sector organisations will be pressed more into partnerships as arrangements that can save money and extend reach.

"And so they can - but they have the potential to consume excessive time and resource with little or no benefit. What I am saying is, go into partnership with your eyes open and for the right reasons. Otherwise what could be a solution might end up being another problem.”
