Mark Taylor makes case for funding small museums
Speaking last Friday on the BBC Radio 4 programme You and Yours about the funding crisis that faces museums, Museums Association director Mark Taylor said: “The big museums are doing OK, but the smaller museums are probably a little more vulnerable.

”It’s worth remembering that these small museums are really the heart and soul of their communities. They offer learning, inspiration, tourism, a sense of place.

“They are often very small, sometimes with few volunteers and no staff, and they all do it off their own bat and with very little funding.

”But often that little bit of funding, say from a local authority, is really rather important, and if they were to lose that then that could be the end.

”So there’s just a few signs that there’s difficulties at the moment and possibly worse on the way.”
